The cyber attack against several Azerbaijani media came from Russia, according to Ramid Namazov, president of the temporary commission against foreign interference and hybrid threats to the Millis (parliament) of Azerbaijan, reports Report.
Speaking during public debates on the attacks of February 20, Mr. Namazov said that the cyber attack had been carried out at a professional technical level by a Russian cyberespionage group.
“The attack was led by Apt29 (Cozy Bear), an organized team involved in cyberials of particular importance, mainly targeting government agencies, foreign missions, politics, defense, energy and the media,” he said.
Namazov stressed that this attack was contrary to the declaration on mutual cooperation between Azerbaijan and Russia and the spirit of bilateral relations.
“The reason was the Russian Information and Culture Center-Russian House, which was not registered as a legal entity in our country and whose activities were suspended for serious violation of the legislation on February 3, as well as the Rossiya Segodnya (Sputnik) representation office in Azerbaijan, which, at the time, was the subject of liquidation rumors,” he said.
