Beauharnois said yes to the pissing challenge 2025

Once again this year, the city of Beauharnois joints is Défi Pissenlits in order to raise awareness of the protection of pollinating insects.

The Pandelions challenge is a simple action but carrying a major impact: delay the mowing of the lawn in the spring to allow pollinating insects to feed on nectar and pollen from the first flowers of the season, such as dandelions. These insects play a crucial role in our ecosystem by ensuring the pollination of several plants, including those that make up a third of our diet.

Green spaces left naturally all May

Throughout the month of May 2025, the city of Beauharnois undertook not to mow several of its green spaces to support the pollinators at the start of the season. The sites of the territory that will not be mowed are the Sauvé park, the Riverain park, the park of the Pins, the Park Nature, the land in front of the Pointe-Dubuisson museum, the land-back in front of the André-Richard arena as well as part of the land in front of the town hall. Posters are placed on these plots of land to notify the population.

A simple gesture, accessible to all

The city invites its citizens to join the movement by letting their lawn push during the month of May. By leaving dandelions to bloom, you offer a real spring buffet to pollinating insects, while posing a concrete gesture for biodiversity.

Less mowing, more life

No specific date is fixed to take up the mowing: just observe the flowering of dandelions and give the pollinators time to take advantage of it. Once the flowers are faded, you can mow the usual as usual.

By participating in the Pissenlits challenge, Beauharnois actively undertakes to protect biodiversity and raise awareness of the vital importance of pollinators in our environment. This initiative is fully part of axis 2.3 of its strategic planning, which aims to protect and highlight natural environments.
