The old French N.1 Caroline Garcia, already forced to give up the Madrid tournament, forfeited on Sunday for the WTA 1000 in Rome which begins Tuesday, but hopes to “arrive in good conditions” in Roland-Garros (May 26-June 9).

Back injury

“Unfortunately, I am unable to play in Rome, it saddens me to miss one of my favorite tournaments,” the Lyonnaise on his Instagram page, which is now in 117th in the world.

“It’s time to continue working to arrive in good conditions in Paris,” added the old world n.4.

Garcia, 31, has to deal for several weeks with a back injury which had already forced her to declare for the WTA 1000 tournament in Madrid which ended on Saturday.

Year 2024 truncated

She has not appeared on the circuit since March and her defeat in the 2nd round of Miami WTA 1000 against the Polish Iga Swiatek (6-2, 7-5).

In 2024, worn mentally, Garcia had put an end to her season in September to rest. Since the 2025 season kick off, his record has been three victories for six defeats. Last year, she was eliminated in the 3rd round of the Roman tournament, by the American Danielle Collins (6-3, 6-3).
