The Frenchman Gaël Monfils renounces the Masters 1000 in Rome after being forfeited in Munich and forced abandoned in Madrid.

An extra stop. Gaël Monfils, a package in Munich and forced abandonment in Madrid, gave up the Masters 1000 in Rome (May 7-18) three weeks from Roland-Garros (May 26-June 9) due to a foot injury, the organizers told AFP on Saturday.

Monfils, 38, has been following physical seeds for a month. He was originally to participate in mid-April in the ATP 500 Munich tournament (Germany), but had forfeited due to an injury to one foot. He participated in the Masters 1000 in Madrid which ends on Sunday, where he won his first round match against Croatian Borna Gojo, but sick, had to forfeit the next match. The next tournament on its program is that of Hamburg (May 17-24), just before Roland-Garros.

Monfils started the season with a glance by winning the Auckland tournament, the 13th title of his career, his first since 2023, then reaching the 8th finals of the Australian Open, notably by eliminating the American Taylor Fritz, 4th in the world. The Ile -de -France was never really comfortable on the clay of Foro Italico. Since his first participation, in 2006, where he had reached the last square, he often skipped the Roman meeting or was eliminated as soon as he entered the scene (2007, 2016, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2024).
