Director of Roland – Garros since December 2021, Amélie Mauresmo recently returned during a podcast during the period when she trained Andy Murray (from 2014 to 2016).
Particularly questioned about the Briton’s decision to train Novak Djokovic only a few weeks after the end of her career, the former French player told her surprise even if she is not shocked.
“I was surprised, but not shocked. This is something that looks like both of them. The first is that Novak had this kind of thought, the idea of calling Andy. Because Novak was trained by Boris Becker and he is always looking for a new pair of eyes to see his game and bring him new things, and also because the friendship they have may be something he needed. As for Andy, I am not shocked that he says yes. Because he loves challenges and he is curious about everything. I thought he would embark on coaching, but not so early, especially because of his family, to be honest. I did not see him traveling again, even if he travels less than when he played, but I did not see him traveling as much with his four children. »»
