It had been in the air for several weeks. It is now mathematical: beaten on Saturday evening in Grasse (1-0), the broom of Anglet are officially relegated to National 3. An outcome that has become inevitable over the weeks, but now engraved in marble. Promoted last summer, the Angloys will only have remained a season on the upper floor and will never have managed to adapt permanently to the requirements of the fourth level.
At the Poute stadium, Cédric Pardeilhan’s players opposed courageous, but too limited resistance, to a much more enterprising opponent. Grasse was dangerous at the start, multiplying the frank opportunities: Watel missed the frame after a good service from Ntamack (5th), the former OGC player Alexy Bosetti rushed on Giffard (10th) and Ntamack forced the Basque goalkeeper to relax in the ground (19th). The goalkeeper of the broom was vigilant on the attempts framed, but he had nothing to do on many out -of -frame strikes, like Ntamack (17th, 28th), Corain (37th) or Bosetti on a free kick (58th).
This lack of realism left visitors to hope … until the action that sealed their fate. On an incursion in the area, Ntamack was retained by Guevel and the referee indicated the penalty point. Bosetti was taking care of it, and although Giffard left on the right side, the ball passed under the porter and slowly spun at the bottom (1-0, 68th). A blow for the Angloys, who saw there moving their last illusions away.
Honor baroud … vain
Solid defensively, disciplined in attitude, Anglet has once again failed in the last thirty meters. A crippling gap at this level, which he has never been able to correct over time. However, there was a thrill in the last minutes, with this chailleous head who came to hit the transverse (86th), then this ballooning in front of the Grassois goal at the end of additional time, without anyone being able to push it to the bottom. One more symbol in a season without success.
-Valent, but too often short of offensive solutions, the broom pay at high price their inexperience at this level. Their return to N3, after a single season in the anteroom of the pro world, is unfortunately only logical. They now have two games to save the honor … and start rebuilding.
