The Korean Agency for International Cooperation (Koica) is strengthening its commitment to education and entrepreneurship in Senegal with the inauguration, on Wednesday April 30, 2025, of a makerspace at the Higher Institute of Vocational Education (ISEP) Amadou Trawaré de Diamniadio. This flagship project, a symbol of the dynamic partnership between Senegal and Korea, aims to stimulate a culture of technological innovation and job creation for Senegalese youth.
Supported by the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation (MESRI), this emblematic project was carried out thanks to the technical and financial support of the Korean International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), a key player in bilateral cooperation between Senegal and South Korea.
Chaired by Professor Hamidou Dathe, representative of Minister Dr El Hadji Abdourahmane Diouf, the ceremony was held in the presence of his excellence Kwon Hyuk-Woon, ambassador of the Republic of Korea, and Mr. Kyunmoo Jun, Director of Koica. This new modern infrastructure, with advanced technologies such as 3D printers, drones, Arduino kits and IoT, aims to stimulate creativity, practical training and entrepreneurship for young people.
“This makerspace embodies our common vision of inclusive education and turned towards the future,” said Jun. He recalled that Koica has been engaged in Senegal since 2008 in various fields, in particular education, health and agriculture. The current project aims to train more than 11,000 direct beneficiaries, focusing on pre-incubation, incubation and mentorship programs for young project leaders.
For Professor Dathe, this achievement is part of the “Senegal referential 2050” vision and testifies to a clear desire to place research and innovation at the heart of economic transformation. “This makerspace perfectly embodies the” prosperous and competitive economy “axis of the Senegal 2050 repository, carried by His Excellency President Bassirou Diomaye Faye. He concretizes our ambition to do research and innovation of structural transformation engines, “says Professor Hamidou Dathe.
Thus, thanks to this makerspace, Diamniadio becomes a reference center for technological education and South Korean cooperation. An exemplary alliance to prepare the talents of tomorrow.
