Pit Senegal alerts anti -social threats on the occasion of International Workers’ Day

-

On the occasion of International Workers’ Day, the Independence and Labor Party (Pit-Sénégal) spoke about the increased workers in the country. Celebrated in a climate of concern, this day highlights the criticism of the Pit towards the new regime. In a press release, the party denounces repeated attacks against the fundamental rights of workers, stressing a deflation policy which has led to massive arbitrary dismissals.

According to the remarks reported by Sud Quotidien, the press release specifies: “Young people, integrated via the ‘Xeyu Ndaw Yi’ program, were suddenly returned without alternative, as well as older employees, suspected of having political affiliations with the former ruling party. Despite this disturbing situation, the Pit welcomes the creation of the National Rally of Licensed Workers, aimed at defending the rights it deems flouted.

The press release also criticizes current economic management, pointing to large private sector companies faced with strategic crises, a consequence of government decisions. According to the PIT, these companies as well as SMEs/SMIs are encouraged to make dismissals, often in violation of labor law. This trend helps to worsen an already tense social situation.

The PIT also denounces an attack on fundamental freedoms under the current regime, citing imprisonments for the offense of opinion and repressive measures against the press. The party expresses its concerns concerning a possible return to structural adjustment policies, providing for wage reductions and the suppression of subsidies, according to negotiations with the IMF.

In this context, Pit-Sénégal reiterates its opposition to any initiative aimed at carrying the crisis of the crisis to the most vulnerable working workers. The party castigates the freezing of family scholarships and reaffirms its commitment alongside workers to counter the government’s antisocial measures.

Finally, in its comments relayed by our colleagues from South Daily, the Pit insists on the importance of a sincere social dialogue and the need for a credible social pact which would guarantee decent jobs and wages, while allowing economic revival by the sanitation of the interior debt.
