Senegal-Mauritanie-Agriculture
Dagana, Apr 13 (APS) – The Director General of the Land Development and Operating Society of the Delta of the Senegal River and the Valleys of the Senegal River and Falémé (SAED), Alassane Bâ, announced, Sunday, the development of a vast joint program to combat avian pressure with Mauritania.
“With our neighbors in Mauritania, we will launch a vast joint program aimed at fighting avian pressure, these cross-border birds that feed on crops resulting in significant losses for farmers,” he said.
Alassane Bâ was expressed in Dagana’s stage of a visit that previously led him to Bakel, Matam and Podor.
According to him, it is the Minister of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Livestock, Dr. Mabouba Diagne who recommended working with the Mauritanians to “jointly fight against Granivore birds”.
Addressing the producers, the director returned to the achievements carried out by the SAED, which earned this year, very satisfactory results in the North zone.
”For the onion, we have produced more than 7. 000 hectares and for tomatoes, we are around 1. 600 hectares. As for the corn and the potato, the yields were 3,000 hectares,” detailed Mr. Bâ.
-According to him, these results are made possible, thanks to the efforts of the State which accompanied the producers by the provision of inputs, in particular the fertilizer and seeds given to the actors to boost production.
He stresses that despite the difficulties linked to the debt of producers, the enhancements in the valley have known this year a fairly significant increase around 41,000 hectares made on the left bank of the Senegal River.
During this tour, the director general of the SAED was able to visit the agricultural perimeters of Dagana A and Dagana C, the unions of Thiaggar, Kassack Nord and the Grande Digue Tell.
Alassane Bâ also went to the Union of Mboundoum, in Debi Tiguet and Prémmes, in Casl and Thilene, where he exchanged with producers.
