The structure of bread constitutes a “big problem” for bakers, said on Saturday in Kaolack (center), the president of the National Federation of Bakers of Senegal (FNBS), Amadou Gaye, calling for discussions with the government.
“The biggest problem in our sector is the structure of the bread and we must discuss it ”, noted the president of the FNBS, which was expressed at the headquarters of the Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture, one of the stages of a national tour to hold a decentralized meeting of the board of directors of their structure.
The goal was to discuss to find solutions to the ” bread crisis ” that rages in Senegal. According to him, solar energy is one of the solutions to face the diktat upwards the price of electricity.
” The problem of Senegal in this bakery sector is the applicability of the regulation of decree 22-77 for which we noted a lot of interpretations on the part of the authorities which were to take care of this applicability ”, underlined Amadou Gaye.
Recalling that the State of Senegal considers bread as a ” social product ”, it considers’ ‘necessary’ to approve all the products which enter into the production of bread, in particular flour, yeast, improvises, electricity for which it is necessary to have a specific and special pricing.
“We have proposed financing solutions to structures such as the development and supervisory agency for small and medium -sized enterprises (Adepm) and a banking bank, to allow bakers to have rapid and secure funding ”, said Gaye.
According to him, in Senegal, bakers are tired since they have problems. This is why they decided to appeal to the authorities of the country so that they take that the price of bread is not at its right level.
“It would be imperative support from the State to relieve bakers if the state says that the price of bread should not move. There are immediate measures, especially on the fiscal, in inputs and the decrease in tax burden in our businesses, ” he insisted.
Gaye, who pleaded for the sanitation of the bakery sector reported that this tax burden made that many bakers have closed. ” Sanitation of the bakery sector is an obligation. There is a decree that must do it but the observation we have made is that people open bakeries as they want. And the Minister of Industry and Trade keep their arms crossed ”, he deplored, advocating the closure of bakers who do not comply with the regulations in force.
In this country (Senegal), you must be firm to enforce the regulations. I can assure you that if we manage to enforce the regulations, we will protect the consumer and we will manage to have quality bread, ensure the traceability of the product and protect our industries in order to preserve jobs ”, he continued.
He argues that if the State of Senegal does not take measures as soon as possible, the bakery sector will die, because the bakeries will close.
