Saint-Louis will welcome the very first female military prytaneous in Senegal

-

Historical symbol of female bravery, Saint-Louis is preparing to write a new page in its history by becoming the cradle of the very first military prytaneous dedicated to young girls in Senegal. The announcement was made by Colonel Abdoulaye Mbengue, commander of the Military Prytaneous of Saint-Louis, who praised a major advance for military education in the country.

According to the Sun, this future establishment will welcome students from the sixth to the final year and aims to form a new generation of disciplined, educated and patriotic young girls. The establishment of this Prytaneous in Nder, a high place of memory, is not trivial. It was in this village that, in the 17th century, women chose to set themselves up rather than falling into the hands of the enemy. This heroic gesture remains a powerful symbol of resistance, dignity and female courage, values that this military school intends to perpetuate.

Initially planned for the 2024-2025 school year, the opening of the first promotion was postponed for unpertified reasons. Colonel Mbengue, while describing the launch of the “imminent” project, said that no official date could yet be announced.

This unique project reflects the will of the Senegalese authorities to promote equal opportunities in institutions of excellence and pay tribute to the emblematic female figures in the history of the country.
