The emblematic stadium Léopold Sédar Senghor de Dakar was fully refurbished. Closed for many years for the needs of its repair, the legendary sports infrastructure has been received by the Senegalese authorities.
Its integral repair is the fruit of Senegalo-Chinese cooperation. On Friday, April 11, 2025, the Senegalese Minister of Sports presided over an official ceremony for handing over the keys to the Léopold Sédar Senghor stadium.
The ceremony was held in the presence of His Excellency Xiao Han, ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Senegal, and Mrs. Li Yan, manager of the Chinese Embassy in Dakar.
According to the Senegalese Ministry of Sports, the realization of this project is part of the renovation of six regional stadiums across the national territory, in accordance with the vision carried by the President of the Republic through the Senegal 2050 agenda.
-The Léopold Sédar Senghor stadium had been built in the early 1980s to host the African Cup of Nations of football “Senegal 1992”.
With a capacity of 60,000 places, the Léopold Sédar Senghor stadium is located in the center of Dakar.
The rehabilitation of the Léopold Sédar Senghor stadium was carried out by the company China State Construction Engineering Corporation LTD (CSCEC). The cost of renovation work is estimated at 20 billion FCFA.
