The Moroccan artist Saad Lamjarred is preparing to appear once again before the French justice, as part of the appeal phase of his media affair, whose facts date back to 2016. He had been sentenced in 2023 by the French Assize Court to six years in prison for rape on a young French woman, before being released a month later under judicial supervision.
According to a French lawyer following the file and cited on platform X, the hearings of the Court of Appeal will begin on June 2 in a Parisian court and will continue until June 6, thus marking the return of the Moroccan star against justice after a long series of postpones and deliberations.
Saad Lamjarred as well as the complainant, Laura Prioul, should be present at the hearings, highly anticipated and likely to bring new elements in a file which, since its beginnings, has aroused a lively controversy and divided public opinion. The accused continues to proclaim his innocence.
-This trial comes after years of complex judicial procedures, punctuated by provisional arrests, parole, as well as several postponement of hearings due to the complexity of the case.
Despite the repercussions of this judicial case, Saad Lamjarred has continued his artistic career in recent years with determination. He released several musical works having met with great success and garnered millions of views, and he also hosted concerts and festivals in various Gulf countries, despite the restrictions imposed by the French authorities.
Lamjarred has not ceased, moreover, to pay tribute to its country, Morocco, by expressing its attachment and its love through references to the Moroccan cultural and musical heritage in its songs, including the Amazigh heritage, thus reinforcing its popularity and its fame.
