In the latest episode of the SRF format “Mona in the middle”, Mona Vetsch experiences the hard everyday life of the mine on the Gotthard construction site in Göschenen. Breaking, excavation, milling: The working conditions are sometimes extreme. Far away from their families, they worked on the construction of the second Gotthard street tube that arises between Göschenen and Airolo.
Vetsch gets to know the bone job up close, chises rocks or carries out blasts, as reports “nau.ch”. None for everyone – in view of this, Vetsch also wants to learn something about the weaning of the miners. With her own estimate, she is clearly wrong.
“What does someone have at the end of the month who works here?” She wants to know. “So CHF 8000?” However, the worker surveyed waves: «No, never. A worker may have CHF 6,000. » Vetsch seems to be surprising from the statement, the job is not only hard, but also dangerous.
This illustrates a story that Markus Keller, the head of the large construction site, describes. He states to Mona that he has already experienced fatal accidents at work. So a good colleague died of his life right after completing his studies. «He worked on a tunnel and was very concentrated. Unfortunately, he was run over by a big dumper and died, »said Keller.
Such events would have brooded him whether this profession was really the right one, since there were great dangers in this work. The tunnel builder Robin also reports Mona Vetsch about an almost fatal accident when an object was jammed when it was rinsed and a bullet hit his chest. He was saved only by luck.
