Who are really football fans in Belgium? A large national investigation is born, conducted by Sudinfo, in the evening, RTL, Het Laatste Nieuws, ULB and VUB. Behind each fan hides a story, a profile, and stereotypes. But is it a real impression, or a cliché? Answer the national investigation.
From week to week, from season to season, supporters passionately garnish the stands of stadiums everywhere in Belgium. They sing to lightning, deploy tifos, howl their love of the coat of arms, suffer in silence or explode with joy with each goal of the team they support.
Passion pegged to the body, club jersey as a second skin, neck scarf and wind hair, they are every time, all adventures. By defying the bad weather, they have neither the kilometers carried out – sometimes up to the borders of Europe -, nor the years of galley or the moments of pure happiness.
But who are you, basically? What is your link with “your” club? How do you live the victory, the defeat, the Var and its discussions discussed or questionable, the endless trips, the price of subscriptions or the hard fight to scrape one of the last places still on sale during the Gala evenings? What do you think of the organization of Belgian football, the schedules of the matches, the price of the tickets? What place does football occupy in your life? Is it still game for the game, or already much more than that?
We need you
To answer these questions – and many others -, Sudinfo, in the evening, RTL, DPG Media and the Free University of Brussels unite their forces to launch the largest investigation ever carried out on supporters in Belgium. And so that it is complete, faithful and alive, we need your voice.
“We all think we know who the supporters are, but in reality, we do not really know who they are,” notes Jean-Michel de Waele, sports sociologist at the ULB. “We have the impression of knowing them, but in reality, we work on the pifometer, stereotypes and generalities: in the imagination of people, the fans of the standard necessarily have a chest tattooed chest, those of the union are bobos, the Anderlechtoise stands are in Flemish consonance in their vast majority, or the Brugeois fan has become anti -Semitic.”
It is high time to get out of the clichés and analyze all this with concrete facts. This is the script, then the reading grid, offered by the vast investigation that Sudinfo, the ULB, in the evening, RTL-TVI and DPG Media will launch with supporters, in the north as in the south of the country.
History of drawing up a precise radiography of a fringe of primordial actors in the world of football. It’s time to know – and we will finally know!
