Entertainment – She is back, more poisonous than ever. Blake Lively, mired in the case between Justin Baldoni, makes his big come back in the feature film L’Ombre d’Emily 2. Paul Feig’s film is online on the streaming platform since Thursday, May 1. The Bling Bling and excessive scenario of this suite has everything of a South American Telenovela. If it’s done on purpose, it’s very successful.
We take the same and start again, but this time in Italy, five years after the events of the first film. Film that it is better to have seen to understand the (big) twists of the second. After Emily’s imprisonment for the murder of her twin sister, Stephanie wrote a book to portray the latter.
In full promotion in a bookstore, Emily, freshly released from prison, arrives and asks her to be a bridesmaid at her imminent marriage with a wealthy Italian businessman.

Stephanie accepts to boost sales of her book, convinced, however, that her former best friend wants to take revenge and seeks to kill her. Once in the luxury hotel in Capri, the mother will face a series of twists and turns, betrayals and, obviously, mysterious murders.
A kitsch comedy with thriller’s false airs
The first film released in 2018 was a sympathetic and glamorous thriller completely entertaining. The rest, however, goes a lot, much further. Emily’s outfits, who left the shackles of the life of a suburban mother, are even more extravagant. The sets, on the island of Capri, are worthy of those of a James Bond.
And the scenario is also much larger, mixing private jet, wars of Italian mafia clans, family secrets buried for decades, accumulation of sometimes incongruous murders. Even the actors’ game, and in particular of Blake Lively herself, borders on the clownesque more than once.

Everything is too much but, strangely, it works. And it is notably thanks to the relationship, made of a mixture of admiration and hatred, which links the characters of Stephanie and Emily. The two thirties send each other spikes of rare violence by keeping an ultrabright smile. A tension that is reminiscent of this-very palpable-between actresses Anna Kendrick and Blake Lively when promoting the first feature film. A tacit enmity that had largely contributed to the success of the film.
Difficult also not to attach to the secondary characters played by Allison Janney, Henry Golding and Alex Newell who come to punctuate the incredible story of tasty sequences. Let it be said, L’Ombre d’Emily 2 is not a real thriller, but does not lack a certain flavor. That, especially guilty pleasure.
