As part of the efforts aimed at the empowerment of Moroccan women, Naïma Ben Yahya, Minister of Solidarity, Social Integration and the Family, said that his department has implemented a series of programs targeting various social categories. This approach is part of an integrated approach aimed at strengthening social justice, economic empowerment and community cohesion. In this regard, she underlined an encouraging assessment recorded at the Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra region.
Among these initiatives is the program for women’s empowerment and leadership, deployed in partnership with local authorities. With a budget envelope of 16 million dirhams at the regional level, including 10 million allocated by the ministry, this system is aimed at women in vulnerability carrying projects, in order to strengthen their management, technical and marketing skills.
To date, 5,982 women have benefited from this program in the region, out of a national total of 84,251 beneficiaries. The ministry also contributed, via partnership agreements with territorial players, to the consolidation of the supply of local social equipment. This support materialized in 2023 by the launch of 14 projects relating to the creation, rehabilitation, equipment and management of social centers dedicated to people in precarious situations.
In response to a written question from the president of the Haraki group, Driss Sentissi, the minister said that, “Within the framework of the Program of Direct Widow Aid in precarious situations ensuring only the care of their orphaned children, 1,016 women were able to benefit from it in the region, out of 1,245 files submitted, which reflects strong membership in the support system for vulnerable families and a tangible commitment in favor of the relief of subsistence subsistence”.
-Regarding social protection structures, the Minister indicated that 13 establishments were authorized in accordance with the provisions of law 14.05, for a total capacity of 1,024 beneficiaries. These structures include: 3 establishments dedicated to people with disabilities (162 beneficiaries); 3 children for children in difficult situations (178 beneficiaries); 2 student houses (80 beneficiaries); 2 social complexes (444 beneficiaries); 2 retirement homes (120 beneficiaries); And a center dedicated to people in precarious situations (40 beneficiaries).
As part of the strengthening of the partnership with the associative fabric, the ministry supported five associative projects in 2023, in addition to two projects supported directly between 2022 and 2024, in the fields linked to the female condition and the handicap. This dynamic aims to develop local services, support families, guarantee the protection of women and children, and consolidate the values of family and social cohesion.
Regarding cooperation with national mutual aid, a key player in social action, Ben Yahya said that “Four multifunctional spaces dedicated to women have been created in the region, thanks to financial support granted within the framework of partnership agreements signed with this institution”.
Thus, as part of the implementation of the national program “Accessible cities”, Intended to promote equal opportunities and to mitigate the effects of disability, the ministry has concluded partnership agreements for the period 2022-2024 with the municipalities of Smara, Tarfaya and Laâyoune, from a strategic perspective aimed at guaranteeing equitable and inclusive access to public spaces and services for all citizens.
