The first secretary of the Socialist Union of Popular Forces (USFP), Driss Lachgar, stressed the importance of parliamentary diplomacy as a tool for promoting South-South cooperation and the construction of strategic alliances for the defense of questions related to national sovereignty and the right to development.
Speaking at the opening, Friday in Marrakech, of the 3rd International Forum of Young Socialist and Socio-Democrats, Lachgar said that an effective parliamentary diplomacy “Allows the voice of our countries to be heard in international forums”.
In this sense, he highlighted the role of this diplomacy in North-South dialogue, in particular between political actors and young parliamentarians of the progressive family.
“National territorial integrity is a sacred pillar which cannot be compromised or called into question”, he supported, calling “Young parliamentarians to make this principle a constant of their international advocacy”.
-For the first secretary of the USFP, “Young people have a great responsibility at the moment, because they represent the new generation which will carry the torch of the future”.
In this regard, he added, young people are called to have a “Critical conscience, a national responsibility and the capacity to build a realistic political discourse based on principles”.
Organized by the Moroccan socialist parliamentary group, in partnership with youth Ittihadya and the Mena-Latina Forum, this two-day forum aims to debate central themes such as world peace, southern parliamentary diplomacy, humanitarian crises, climate and human rights.
It also aims to encourage young parliamentarians to consult around these questions, to analyze them and to propose innovative and effective solutions, by asserting their skills to use new technologies and social networks to mobilize and educate other actors of important causes, in particular those linked to social justice, environment and gender equality.
