- The musical adaptation of “hatred” arrives at the Arena in Geneva next May.
- The three main roles were selected from 4,000 candidates.
- Between dance and comedy, the show naturally integrates rap, reflecting the essence of the original film.
The room does not grow yet. The lodges sofa, yes. On the leather, three 25-year-old actors who are agitated and are valid, perhaps to forget the pressure of the spectators in the room, who came to discover this funny bird brooded by Mathieu Kassovitz: “Hatred: so far nothing has changed” is the very muscular musical adapted from film by the filmmaker himself. That evening in November, she was in Lyon. On May 9 and 10, she will be the Arena of Geneva.
Sacred Mathieu Kassovitz
Trio of friends, therefore, obviously not chicated, sincere and fresh. It was necessary to make people forget the bitterness between the original triumvirate and the filmmaker: on X, the insults have long stolen low between Kassovitz and Said Taghmaoui, who played Said in the cult film. With Vincent Cassel, the atmosphere is barely polite. For the French cinema boxer, replacing the historic gang which made his film so authentic was a risk bet.

He succeeds with Alexander Ferrario, Samy Belkessa and Alivor in the respective roles of Vinz, Said and Hubert. Actors, dancers, rappers: they accumulate the caps and wear the two hours of show on their shoulders and the fifteen actors around them.
You were chosen from 4000 candidates: what did you also?
Alexander: In the final stage, we felt that we got along particularly well and that we were completing. So we started to see ourselves outside the castings and we presented ourselves in a block for the final, knowing that they were looking for an alchemy.
You have 25 years of average age: you were not born at the release of “Haine” in 1995. What does this film represent?
Samy: It’s a flagship film, we all had it in a corner of our heads. Even those who have not seen him know him in a certain way: all his aftershocks are on social networks.
Alivor: I saw him as a child, it’s a monument. This is also the reason why I agreed to present myself to the casting of a musical. Because for me, frankly, it rimed with Garou, that kind of stuff! Not really my universe. It was before discovering what Mathieu Kassovitz had in mind.

Have you ever tried dance, rap, comedy?
Alexander: Not everything together. But we complete each other. Alivor comes from rap, he is the boss. Samy and I knew each other a little better in comedy. In dance, we are still not incredible, but we are well surrounded.
-Was it particularly stressful to enter the clothes of cult characters, to replace the original actors?
Samy: I was a little in a work tunnel, it helped me forget the pressure. I especially wanted to do well, to look like Said without imitating it, and above all, not to fall into a caricature of the city guy.
Alexander: Mathieu Kassovitz and Serge Denoncourt encouraged us to build our roles as we felt. To aim for DNA.
The show is nourished by rap, while the film is not at all. However, it is still cataloged like a great hip-hop film. Amazing, right?
Alivor: “Haine”, for me, is rap in pictures. These are the same codes, the same claims. The same background. Mathieu made a cinematographic rap.
Samy: I agree. In the film, each scene could be a song from the same album. The barbecue on the roofs, the discovery of the ransacked gym, the CRS that surround the city, the confrontation …

Time passes, but merguez on the roof always costs a euro.

What do the original actors think of your service? We know that Mathieu is angry with Said …
Samy: We did not have any contacts, we must say that we did not look for them either. It should be done naturally.
Vince: The problems that Mathieu could have with them are not ours. We would like everything to be cool. If Said sends me a message tomorrow to drink a coffee, I’m going direct.
How do you live the reality of this tour, which will last all year 2025?
Alexander: It’s tiring, but good fatigue. I worked in restoration all my life, and I can tell you that it is not fatigue according to service! It’s a fatigue that makes you want to go back! In the evening at the hotel, I am still full of adrenaline.
Samy: After two evenings of musical comedy in Marseille, we were all slammed, we climbed in the “Bus tour”, but nobody slept. We made rap battles until 4 a.m.
