Cadillac F1 does not feel any urgency to sign a pilot for 2026. Dan Towriss, the CEO of TWG Motorsports, the company in charge of the project, has fun with the rumors he reads but leaves time for his troops to make a thoughtful choice.
“I think the most important thing is that we are not in a hurry to choose a pilot, there are a lot of things that come into play in the selection of a driver for Formula 1 from this point of view” said Towriss.
“So we take our time. The list certainly includes the names that many people talk about. Even if I am delighted to wake up every day and read that we are in the last stages of negotiations.”
The American confirms that Cadillac is looking for an experienced pilot, while the names of Sergio Pérez, Valtteri Bottas and Guanyu Zhou are advanced: “I mean that performance is one thing, but experience is another. This is a new start.”
“Obtaining an information back on the car … You know, from this point of view, it will be of crucial importance. We are not only talking about what is happening on the track, but also what is happening in the simulation. There are therefore a lot of aspects to take into account.”
“Fortunately, with Graeme [Lowdon]Eric Warren from GM Motorsports and many others, we assimilate as much information as possible to demonstrate diligence, make our time and make the right decision. There are a lot of discussion in progress. There is a lot of interest for this team and we are very grateful, that’s for sure. “
Towriss would like to recruit an American pilot, but he notes that it will not necessarily happen from the start of the project: “I would describe this as follows: we are determined to have an American pilot. It is important for all of us to do so in the right way.”
“It is not necessary that it is next year. I think it will be the right person, the right way, the right time. It is not a gadget to catch someone and put it in the seat. Because it is important for us that they succeed, is it?”
“I think we want this person to be ready to succeed and that this tub is respected when the American pilot will arrive in the team. We are therefore formulating this process, this plan, and we are committed to finding the right way and the right time to bring the right pilot in Formula 1.”
