Carlos Sainz signed a very good result during the qualifications of the Miami Grand Prix since he will start sixth, in the third line of the race. The driver Williams F1 confirms the good form of his team, who beat Ferrari on the regular this Saturday, and thinks that he has never been so good since the start of the season.
“It had been a difficult weekend so far, and it was weird because I feel very good in the car, very confident. I like what the car is doing and when I saw the results, whether in terms of performance or operational, I was frustrated” said Sainz.
“But we pressed the reset button. I managed to sign my best tour for Williams in qualifiers, three tenths of the pole. It had to be a very good turn to be only three tenths of the car, a good job. I am happy and proud, things are going well and I am in good position for tomorrow.”
Whatever the weather, the Spaniard thinks he can sign a very good result in the race: “I was confident on the dry, in the rain, I will be in the rhythm, it is just a question of putting end to end and the operational, as we did in qualifying, and the rhythm is there.”
-He thinks it will be difficult to retain the Ferrari by Charles Leclerc, but thinks of ending in front of that of Lewis Hamilton: “Lewis leaves far, Ferrari was not far from being the fastest car in the race in Djeddah, so I think Charles will pass us at some point, but we can fight against others.”
Alex Albon will leave for him seventh tomorrow, but the Williams driver spoke of the five -second penalty he received during the Sprint race. He had finished fourth but underwent a penalty which returned it out of the points, losing five important units for Williams.
“I am happy with my qualification, but I am very mixed. I am very disappointed with the sprint. I have the feeling that my fourth place was deserved, it was a good result, very good points for the team, but in the end, I recognize a piloting error. But I think it is very hard on the part of the commissioners to have sanctioned it, because I did it for security” said Albon.
“Otherwise yes, the qualifications went well, I am happy, but I learned the news about five minutes before preparing myself, so I had to calm down as much as possible and go for it. I made some mistakes, but overall, I am very happy.”
