The FIA is preparing to note the speed limit in the lane of the stands to promote a greater number of stops and therefore of strategies.
We mentioned it a few weeks ago as Formula 1 track to improve the show, in addition to a choice of tender tires from Pirelli, and the idea has made its way since.
As a rule, the speed in the stands is limited during the race at 80 km/h, even 60 km/h on certain narrow circuits like Melbourne, Monaco, Zandvoort and Singapore.
The FIA assesses the possibility of ironing at 100 km/h (or 80 km/h) this limit and therefore returns to the standard which existed before 2014. Depending on the circuits, this would save around 5 seconds on the stop time, even up to 7 seconds on the long Pitlane of Singapore.
What to tip certain teams from one to two stops? If the tires become tender enough for that, it is very possible according to the teams, which believe that Pirelli still does not go far enough at this level.
Asked about this idea in Miami, Leclerc remains cautious and thinks of the safety of mechanics.
“I have never heard of it, but certainly not for all shopping, some pitlades are narrow.”
“I don’t think it’s wise for all shopping. I have the impression that on certain circuits, it could work, but to be honest, I had never even thought about it.”
“I will have to deepen the subject and examine the implications of all this. But at first glance, it can be relevant in certain races, yes.”
