Lewis Hamilton has yet experienced frustrating races at Ferrari.

Apart from the sprint in China, which he won, the British pilot was not at Charles Leclerc. But we saw relays where the car-and itself-were really competitive.

Why was there not yet this click?

“Many things. Many different things. There is not one in particular.”

Is there a point to mention after the long work he did at the factory after Djeddah?

“Not particularly. I mean, when I joined Mercedes, the first six months were difficult to get used to working with new people. Obviously, the engineers I work with now are used to paying a car for a different pilot and a different pilot style, and I am used to driving a car with a different piloting style. It is therefore a combination of several factors.”

“But yes, we had a good working time in Italy. We saw a lot of things, we did the simulator. We adjusted certain points. We will see what it gives this weekend.”

So will that be better around summer?

“Six months suddenly? I really don’t know. We do everything we can to shorten it, but it could be longer. Who knows?”

Does he feel capable of piloting this car instinctively, or should he consciously think about his gestures?

“In general, it’s always a mixture of the two, but I work hard to adapt to it, that’s for sure.”

Its competitiveness is the subject of many comments in the media. If Hamilton admits to seeing them, he also says: “I don’t really think about it. I try not to focus too much on the opinions of people who have no idea what is really going on, but rather on those of people who have never been in my place. So yes, I do low profile and I try to continue to appreciate the work I do with my colleagues.”

And this weekend in Miami? What can we expect from him and Ferrari?

“No idea. We will do our best. We have no evolutions or anything this weekend, but we continue to try to optimize the car. Obviously, Charles did a fantastic job during the last race and showed what the car could do in the race. The goal is therefore to try to reproduce this.”
