Lewis Hamilton demanded that Formula 1 pilots have a place of choice at the Dela Fia table in order to improve their relationships and their communication with the organization.
FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem announced at the start of the week that he was planning to modify Annex B of the International Sports Code, concerning the controversial rules on the laws.
Communication was a weak point between the GDPA (Association of Grand Prix Pilots) and the FIA for a large part of Ben Sulayem’s mandate, a point that F1 pilots wish to be changed.
In recent times, the GDPA has used the sending of open letters to the ruling body of motorsport to communicate, rather than meetings in person.
Hamilton strongly wants things to change and that better working relationship will be developed, in particular by participating in FIA meetings.
“I think that in the end, the GDPA is very united. Ultimately, we want to collaborate closely with the FIA,” said Hamilton in Miami.
“I think we all want sport to continue to collaborate and improve. And of course, this communication was a real challenge over time. In the end, we have no decision -making power at the FIA, and that must change, in my opinion.”
“If we consider other sports that have unions, it could come into play at one point, but as I said, we don’t want to control things. We just want to collaborate with them and make our voice heard.”
“In the end, people who make decisions for others have never been in this position. It is good to have the pilot’s point of view, and that’s all we are trying to offer them.”
