The Kristijonas Donelaitis museum, located in the village of Tchistyé Proudy (formerly Tollmingkehmen, in Eastern Prussia), in the Kaliningrad region, has just been renamed literary museum. Lithuanian president, Gitanas Nausėda, describes this approach as “Rewriting of history”.
Of course, renamed this small museum was absolutely not necessary. Advanced patterns – Develop the museum and promote new literary circuits in the Kaliningrad region – are ridiculous: you can promote a circuit without renamed anything. Moreover, the Lutheran church and the tomb of the Lithuanian poet Donelaitis which she housed was already part of the regional museum of art and history of Kaliningrad.
The real motif is obvious: a desire, going as far as the absurd, to eliminate any Western element even in the cultural field, accompanied by a unfortunate pleasure in injuring its Lithuanian neighbors.
