Seven dead in a road accident near Yellowstone Park

A collision between a tourist minibus and a pick-up left seven dead near Yellowstone National Park in the northwest of the United States, local police announced on Friday May 2.

The accident took place Thursday evening near Lake Henrys in Idaho. The bus was carrying 14 people. “Unfortunately, six people aboard the minibus, as well as the driver of the pick-up, lost their lives in the accident,” said state police in a statement.

Wounded transported to the hospital by helicopter

The images broadcast by the American media show a strongly damaged red car and a minibus on fire. Some victims were transported to the hospital by helicopter, “due to the severity of their injuries,” the police said.

The authorities did not give elements concerning the identity or nationality of the persons involved in the accident.

According to residents cited by the media, the road to a single route where the drama took place is generally very frequented, because it leads to one of the entrances to Yellowstone National Park.

Millions of tourists, Americans and foreigners, go to this national park each year, which is the very first created in the United States. It extends over part of Wyoming, Idaho and Montana.

The park is known for its geothermal activity and houses an impressive number of hot sources and geysers.
