Meghan Markle recently used her title of Royal Highness despite the ban on Queen Elizabeth II, once again relating the controversy around her family and the anger of certain members of the monarchy.
We know the tensions that broke the relationship between the two brothers. A final provocation?
Officially, Harry and Meghan have kept their titles (His/Her Royal Highness, in English), but were committed, in 2020, to Queen Elizabeth II, never to use them after their withdrawal from the monarchy. However, Meghan recently rekindled controversy by sending the American entrepreneur Jamie Kern Lima a basket filled with a signed word: “With the compliments of HRH, The Duchess of Sussex”, therefore employing his title of Highness despite the ban. -For a former courtier, this use of the title constitutes a clear violation of the Sandringham agreement, which stipulated that the Sussex undertook to never use their predicate, whatever the form. Moreover, the official site of the British monarchy is unequivocal: “The Sussex will no longer make use of their titles of Royal Highness, because they are no longer active members of the royal family.”
But opinions differ however. According to a relative of Meghan Markle, the latter has not violated any commitment: “Harry and Meghan keep their titles; They just don’t use them for commercial purposes. This word was linked to a personal gift. “
