A Massachusetts resident who certainly thought of making easy money by helping a clandestine migrant to cross the border between Estrie and New Hampshire is now risking up to five years of penitentiary, after pleading guilty in the United States.
“Surveillance cameras had detected a man walking in a remote location, to finally embark on a vehicle that was heading south,” said the American authorities, recalling that the borders are closely monitored.
Esdras Aaron Calel-Cumes, 29, learned it at his expense when he helped a man in Estrie to go illegally to our southern neighbors last fall.
Himself without legal status in the United States, Calel-Cumes went by car to the north of the municipality of Pittsburg in New Hampshire, a few kilometers from the border.
-Intercepted by border services agents, the duo was immediately placed in arrest.
And rather than going to trial, Calel-Cumes has rather chosen to plead guilty this week at the Concord Justice Palace in New Hampshire.
He now risks a sentence of up to five years of penitentiary, in addition to a fine that could amount to $ 250,000.
“He will face the expulsion once his sentence has been purged,” said an American federal prosecutor by press release.
