The announcement of the first discourse of the throne pronounced by an English monarch since 1977 was “expected” and constitutes “a way of reaffirming the sovereignty of Canada”, according to the professor of political science at McGill University, Daniel Béland.

“The few general remarks” which will be added by King Charles III in the introduction of the discourse of the throne, which opens the parliamentary session, “[seront] Symbolic, because of Donald Trump’s words about Canada, “Béland told LCN’s antenna on Friday.
-“There were rumors that circulated on this subject before and during the electoral campaign,” said the professor at McGill University, particularly due to “the questioning of Canada by President Trump”.
A risky decision?
Asked about the reactions that the invitation of King Charles III could arouse among Quebecers, historically detached from the monarchy, Mr. Béland said that Mark Carney’s decision was a “calculated risk”.
“There will be no federal elections before at least 2027. Will people remember that in a year and a half-two years?” he raised.
