One of the accused of the shooting on the offices of the lawyer Émile Benamor is a young criminal from Cameroon who was still in the country because Ottawa was slow to expel him.
Last October, Michel Manueli Likeng Mbappe and his two accomplices would have unloaded a burst of 19 shots in the street in downtown Montreal.
The shots were aimed at a building where Benamor’s law firm was located, well known as the owner of an old-Montreal building where seven people died in a criminal fire in March 2023.

Likeng Mbappe had an already well -expanded criminal file, even before his most recent arrest not far from his offices.
At just 20 years old, he had already spent more than a year behind bars related to break -ins, possession of a stolen van and dangerous driving in 2023 and 2024.
In the eyes of the Canada Border Services Agency (ASFC), it was enough to write a report on its case due to “great crime” in May 2024, according to documents obtained by our investigation office.
Born in Cameroon, who arrived in Canada in his adolescence and never having obtained his citizenship, Likeng Mbappe risked the expulsion of the country given his criminal past and his status of permanent resident.
Released
However, the procedures for dismissal have been so late that the young man had time to finish serving his prison sentence in the summer of 2024 and being arrested on the sidelines of the shooting in October.
While Likeng Mbappe was again detained, the Canada Border Services Agency (ASFC) finally entrusted its file to its immigration section, in charge of surveys, in January 2025.
Refusing to comment on this case in particular, the ASFC affirms that cases of great crime represented its “highest priority” in terms of the execution of the references.
-The first hearing of Likeng Mbappe planned for March at the Immigration and Refugee Status had to be postponed since the accused had not found a lawyer.

Avare comments during the virtual hearing, Likeng Mbappe, however, started talking to himself when the commissioner left for a few minutes to make his decision.
«Fuck man… I pulled anyone … What the fuck“, He mumbled, taking 100 steps.
Commissioner Annie Lemaine decided to make an expulsion measure against him, exactly a year after his most recent conviction.
“People often have the impression that when a foreigner is found guilty, we can expel him. But it is not as simple, there is a whole procedure and appeals, ”underlines the immigration lawyer Stéphane Handfield.
Likeng Mbappe will not be able to be sent before a decision is made concerning his involvement in the shooting and he is serving his sentence if necessary, unless the accusations withdrew.
The permanent resident could also request a request for judicial control over his dismissal.
