Two soldiers of the Yahlom combat genius’ elite unit lost their lives on Sunday morning in the south of the Gaza Strip. Captain Noam Ravid, 23, from Shaarei Tikva, and Chief Sergeant Yaheli Sharor, 20, of Omer, were killed during an explosion in an underground tunnel which they inspected in the Jenina district of Rafah. Two other soldiers were injured in this incident, one seriously and the other moderately. According to the first TSAhal assessments, the explosion would be due to an explosive device that the team would not have detected during preliminary checks.
An hour and a half before this tragedy, two soldiers of the armored unit were injured near a tank of the 46th battalion in the Darj Tufah district of Gaza-Nord. The Israeli army is still investigating this event, evoking either a dysfunction of a chariot, or a mortar shot in Hamas. The Israeli army has announced that the Jenina Battalion Mission of Hamas is coming to an end. “The last terrorists take refuge in the tunnels, in a difficult situation, and some are starting to surrender,” said a military spokesperson.
At the same time, TSAhal began to mobilize tens of thousands of reservists in anticipation of an expansion of operations in the Gaza Strip in the coming days. This sixth or seventh mobilization since the start of the conflict 17 months ago destroyed the promise made to reservists to limit their service to two and a half months for the year 2025.
