Plus real – Sırrı Süreyya Önder, Deputy Chairman of the Parliamentary Party of Peoples (Dem Party), died in Florence Nightingale Hospital where he was treated. Önder has been struggling to survive in the hospital for 18 days.
Önder was born in 1962 as the son of a Turkmen family. In an interview, he said that his uncle was close to the Nur community and his father was close to the socialist movement. His father is one of the founders of the Turkish Labor Party (TİP) Adıyaman Organization. He lost his father when he was 8 years old. His uncle was the student of Saidê Nursi.
Sırrı Süreyya Önder was among the people who welcomed PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan in Adıyaman in 1976. During this period, he was a child aged 14-15. This was the beginning of his theme with the Kurdish struggle for freedom, and in the following years it was an important turning point in shaping his political identity.
He was influenced by his father and took part in the revolutionary/socialist struggle in his youth. In 1978, he was arrested for the first time in his life for participating in the demonstration of the Merchane Massacre when he was a student at Adıyaman High School. After graduating from high school, the revolutionary struggle continued and continued his struggle at Ankara University, Faculty of Political Sciences.
1 year after the military coup of September 12, 1980, he was detained, tortured and sent to Mamak Prison. After 7 years of prisoner, he went to Istanbul and worked in various jobs, including truck driver. He stayed abroad for a period.
During this period, Kurdish supported the struggle for freedom. He wrote various articles for free talk of Kurdish.
On the other hand, he showed interest in cinema and writing. He focused on the screenwriting. In 2006, together with Muharrem Gülmez, the script was filmed his Beynelmilel film and thus stepped into director. Beynelmilel received 5 awards at national and international film festivals.
Önder, then he wrote the script of the film … Children (2008). Lastly, he became one of the director of the F -Type Film, which was shot in 2012. He also played various roles in many films.
-After 2010, Birgün started writing columns at Radikal and Özgür Gündem.
In 2011, he took part in politics. In the general elections held that year, he was elected as a deputy in Istanbul as an independent candidate of the Blok of Labor, Freedom and Democracy. In 2013, he took part in the People’s Democratic Party (HDP) and continued his political activities. He served as the Co -Chairman of the Party for a period.
Önder became the first deputy to lead the resistance in the park during the Gezi Park protests in 2013. He stopped the cutting of the trees in the park by passing in front of the buckets. The buckets withdrew from the park after his action. On May 31, 2013, Önder, who hit pepper gas cartridge on his back, was taken to hospital.
He took an active role in the ‘Solution Process’
He became one of the most active politicians in the meetings held in 2013-2015 between PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan and the State/Power. Abdullah Öcalan and KCK officials took part in the talks, the peaceful solution of the Kurdish problem and the democratization of Türkiye has made an intense effort.

In the local elections held in 2014, he became the candidate of HDP’s Mayor of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality. In 2015, he was re -elected as a deputy.
Önder was arrested on 6 December 2018 for “making propaganda for an organization” and was released on 4 October 2019. In the general elections held on May 14, 2023, he was re -elected from the HDP. Önder is the Deputy Chairman of the Assembly as Dem Party Istanbul Deputy.
In addition, he met with Abdullah Öcalan in the Dem Party delegation. (MA)
