Frustrated with employers’ offers deemed insufficient, employees of the Montreal IKEA store sparked a strike at midnight on Saturday.
These are picking up in front of the trade on Saturday which remains open to the public since business executives replace workers on strike, the CSN told the QMI agency.
All of the trade workers located on Boulevard Cavendish, near Highway 40, have decided to disengage to “make their employer understand their determination.
Strikers consider the offer of a salary increase of 5% over four years unacceptable.
-“Ikea’s finances are doing well. The company makes hundreds of millions of dollars in turnover per year, largely thanks to our work, and it is not able to offer us protection against inflation in order to maintain our purchasing power, “said the vice-president of the Montreal-CSN IKEA union, Nicole Aguilera.
The workers and their union are demanding a catch -up equivalent to other “comparable stores”.
“The members of the union earn less than other workers of similar workplaces. While the employers’ part does not even offer them a salary indexed to inflation, ”says the CSN.
IKEA employees have been without employment contract since last January.
