As in her first novel “Aurore”, published in 2021, Bertrand Touzet paints the portrait of a strong and contrasting female character here. “The character was inspired to me by a true story, heard in the program” Les Maternelles “, as well as by the journey of a friend party to make a baby in Spain,” he slips. This time, Mathilde’s role is balanced by that of Thomas, who also occupies an important place. “In my novels, I need strong characters. Women are very inspiring from this point of view, ”says Bertrand Touzet.

“Captivate readers from the first pages”

At 46, Bertrand Touzet leads a double life of physiotherapist and writer. Located in Muret, he practices his job during the day and written in his spare time. “I write in the morning, from 6 to 9 am, especially the weekend. During the day, it also happens to note some ideas between two patients in my office, just five minutes, like a small escape that makes me feel good, where I let my sensitivity speak, “he says.

His lively and rhythmic style, which is based on short and sensory sentences, is at the service of characters overflowing with humanity. “I like captivating my readers from the first lines, then sowing key elements gradually,” explains the author. Father of three children – Martin (18), Héloïse (15) and Guilhem (10) – Bertrand Touzet is largely inspired by his daily life: the reflections of his children or his patients feed his stories. A small box to read sits in his office, where he shares his readings with those who meet him.

Far from him, the idea of wanting to write a full -time activity, Bertrand Touzet claims this link to reality: “I write about people. If I cut myself from them, I will lose my credibility, my essence of writing, ”he slips. If her first novel “Aurore received several literary awards, this is not what pushed him to continue, “but rather the stories that I wanted to share with as many people as possible. Even if at the start, I write for myself, ”he says.

Its readers are sometimes unexpected. With the association “Read to get out”, Bertrand Touzet presented “Aurore” to prisoners: “I did it twice, they were very beautiful meetings. I did not think that this woman’s story could interest them, and yet a prisoner told me that he had read nothing for years, ”says the author.

His fifth manuscript is already underway. He will focus on adolescence. “This time, my hero will be a perfumer,” he said.

“Aux Cabanes”, by Bertrand Touzet, Editions Terres de France, 291 pages, € 21. He will be in dedication on June 8, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., at the “Through the Words” bookstore in Blagnac.
