The Furia association requests the creation of rooms and courts specializing in gender violence. Before they are emerging, she recommends that detecting potential violence becomes compulsory in divorce procedures.
According to the Flemish feminist reflection group Ragefamily affairs judges do not take sufficient account of intra -family violence when it comes to resolving the question of child care after divorce. The association requests the creation of specialized rooms or courts in gender -based violence.
After a divorce, it is often considered that the situation within the family is no longer dangerous. However, there may be an “increased risk of potentially fatal violence at the time of divorce or in the following period”, notes the organization, which recalls that children exposed to domestic violence are also victims.
Furia therefore calls for the creation of rooms or courts specializing in gender violence -a specialization that would allow better protect victims of domestic violence as well as children. While waiting for these courts to be set up, the tools of the judges for family affairs must be extended, estimates Furia.
This is why the reflection group requires that a proactive detection potential violence between (ex-) partners become compulsory In divorce procedures, as is already the case in other countries. Justice assistants can play an important role in this regard. The presence of the prosecution should also be required and a benchmark magistrate with expertise in gender violence should be appointed.
“The role of a trusted personused for example in the context of the special protection of young people, could also be extended to all families where a risk of intra -family violence is detected, ”explains Sofie de Graeve, member of Furia.
A peaceful action The Turnhout court will take place on Saturday to denounce the situation.
