Indeed, the weekend of April 26 and 27, as part of the French Cup finals organized by the French basketball federation (FFBB), the young Landais made his experience speak to win in the Benjamin challenge. This competition is a national test implemented eighteen years ago by the FFBB, in partnership with the Junior NBA program. They were no less than 19,076 at the start.
A day at INSEP
To arrive at this stage, Evan Lacroix had brilliantly passed the departmental and regional selections. Already in these strata, the Landais had shown great dexterity to be the best. “There are several shooting, dribbling or passing exercises,” says the young champion. High hands, the budding champion had won his ticket to represent New Aquitaine at the regional finals, a month and a half ago.
On Friday, April 25, the 31 youngest (representing all regions of the metropolis and overseas) found themselves on the installations of the France Basketball Pôle Yvan Mainini at INSEP. “I went into the first. It went well, but in some events, I expected to do better, ”says Evan Lacroix. However, his performance was crowned by a brilliant victory. “They started to give the names of the third and then the second. And there, I heard my name, ”continues the champion. “I was happy but a little embarrassed. »»
A 3*3 victory
In the process, the Landais joined Paris-Bercy where the various finals of the Coupe de France took place. “A 3*3 tournament was organized for young people. This was argued between the meetings and at the half-time of certain meetings, “reveals Dylan Lacroix, his father. Evan was associated with a youngster from New Caledonia and another from Occitania. This trio was brilliantly imposed in this 3*3 tournament. “It is impressive to meet in this room with so many people,” continues the Licensee of the Stade Montois.
A few minutes later, in front of garnished spans, Evan Lacroix received his reward from the Benjamin challenge. Her smile speaks volumes about her happiness. Besides the cup, he won a trip to the United States. Just that! He will fly across the Atlantic during the holiday season, where he will have the privilege of attending a match of the famous NBA championship.
“I can’t wait too much to be there,” says the one who follows the journey of the different formations. The calendar of the future season is not established, it will have to wait a few weeks to know the poster of the meeting. “I would like to see Golden State,” he admits in a first momentum, before rectifying: “Spurs, rather”.
A story that looks like a Christmas tale for the Lacroix family. Evan will enjoy this trip to the United States with his parents and little sister Maëlie. In the meantime, he recovers from his emotions. “He finished the rinsed weekend. The pace was supported, ”admits the father.
But he quickly found the reality on the ground. As of this Saturday, he will be in Saintes with his 3*3 comrades for the regional final. And within ten days, he will play with the Stade Montois also the quarter -final of his departmental championship. The season could be very beautiful!
