No part of Ukraine is to be taken or yielded

The Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of Ukraine, the supreme law of the two countries, unequivocally guarantee their respective full territorial integrity.

Indeed, the constitution of the United States indicates in article IV, section 4: “The United States will guarantee each state of the Union a republican form of government, and will protect each of them against the invasion […] ».

Likewise, article 2 of the Constitution of Ukraine, adopted by the Ukrainian Parliament on June 28, 1996, indicates: “Ukraine’s sovereignty extends throughout its territory […]. The territory of Ukraine, in its current borders, is indivisible and inviolable. “In addition, article 17 provides:” Protecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine and ensuring its economic and informational security are the most important functions of the State and a concern for all the Ukrainian people. »»

Consequently, neither the American authorities nor the Ukrainian authorities have the power to conclude treaties which would violate these fundamental constitutional guarantees.

In addition, article 2 of the United Nations Charter, founding document of the United Nations, forcing all its Member States, including the United States, Ukraine and Russia, indicates that the latter must act in accordance with certain principles, in particular the respect for the territorial integrity of all the Member States: “1. The organization is based on the principle of sovereign equality of all its members […]. 4. The members of the organization refrain, in their international relations, to resort to the threat or the use of force, either against territorial integrity or political independence of any state, or in any other way incompatible with the goals of the United Nations. »»

A bad signal to imperialist diets

Consequently, no Member State of the UN can invade another, nor recognize an imperialist expansion against a Member State of the UN, and even less pressure on a Member State of the United Nations so that it recognizes the validity of an invasion of any part of its territory. These fundamental principles are obvious and essential to ensure peace, security and stability in the world. Their violation, explicit or tacit, or even the tolerance of such a violation, out of opportunism or for any other reason allegedly “practical “, Encourages authoritarian regimes with imperialist ambitions to continue these ambitions, to jeopardize the world order and, ultimately, to trigger more and larger wars.

This was the case on September 30, 1938, when Nazi Germany encouraged the United Kingdom, France and Italy to conclude the Munich agreements and to authorize the annexation by Nazi Germany with part of what was then Czechoslovakia, known as the Southtes, with a large German ethnic population.

The Munich agreements were actually aimed at eating Hitler and buying peace. In fact, after their conclusion, back in London, British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain triumphantly proclaimed his people “peace for our time”.

This false peace did not even last a year, because Nazi Germany invaded Poland on 1is September 1939, thus triggering the Second World War.

To prevent history from repeating itself, NATO member countries, starting with the United States, should not try to appease another dictator with imperialist ambitions, this time at the Kremlin, by sacrificing any part of Ukraine, including Crimea or the territories occupied by Russia in eastern Ukraine.

Rather, they should create the conditions necessary to force Russia to first accept a complete ceasefire, then to conclude a real peace agreement with security guarantees provided by NATO member countries.

Putin, like Hitler, feels embraced to go further when he perceives the slightest sign of weakness on his way.

Consequently, NATO member countries must help Ukraine to arrest Putin now or undergo the disastrous consequences of their acceptance of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. What do you think? Take part in the dialogue
