Volodymyr Zelensky invited Donald Trump to go to Ukraine to see the destruction caused by war. A statement a few hours before a deadly strike in Soumy.

In an interview broadcast on Sunday April 13 on the American channel CBS, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky launched a direct invitation to Donald Trump: coming to Ukraine to observe with his own eyes the consequences of the Russian invasion. This interview preceded by a few hours a deadly strike in Soumy, in the northeast of the country, which caused the death of at least 34 people and aroused a wave of international indignation.

“We want you to come to see for yourself. If you think you understand the situation, we respect this,” said Zelynsky, addressing Donald Trump. “But before any decision or negotiation, come and see the damage. Look at civilians, soldiers, hospitals, churches, children, all destroyed or killed. Then, let’s move on to a solution to end this war.”

“No confidence in Putin”

The Ukrainian head of state also insisted that Vladimir Putin cannot be given any confidence. He recalled that he said to Donald Trump several times that the Russian president had never intended to stop the conflict or respect the independence of Ukraine. “Putin wants our total annihilation,” he said.

This statement comes as Donald Trump, who tries to play the mediators, would have proposed a cease-fire, without a positive response from Moscow. Zelensky thus underlines the uselessness of negotiations based on false promises.

Finally, asked about certain controversial statements by Trump, who treated him as a “dictator” and said that kyiv had caused war, Zelensky expressed his concern in the face of the perception of the situation in the West. According to him, Russian speech is gaining ground in the United States: “It is indicative of the massive influence of Russian propaganda on public opinion, political decisions and even on American leaders”.
