The first pickleball tournaments made their verdict – medialot

Success across the line.

This beautiful sunny Saturday was devoted to several pickelball tournaments in TC Cahors. The day before, several club volunteers had activated to transform a classic tennis court into four pickelball tracks. A hell of a work but the result was really very satisfactory!

At the helm, Philippe Cujus who officiated for the first time for this type of tests. Four tournaments were offered: simple gentlemen, simple ladies, double gentlemen and double ladies. Jean-Pierre Cavenne, very active member of the steering committee, had concocted an excellent meal, assisted by Magali Mallem in order to restore energy to the participants during the meridian break.

It was the first K100 organized in the lot. Some competitors had not hesitated to make miles to come and gover, an opportunity also for them to discover our pretty Cadurcian city!

In single and double, the levels of practice were quite uneven. Indeed, this tournament was a baptism of fire for certain novices when others were much more used to this new practice, particularly in vogue in the United States.

As for the game strictly speaking, in simple gentlemen, the poster of the final was enticing since she put in the presence of coach Philippe Cujus and her “pupil” Maxence Gauvain. The two players offered a beautiful show to the public present to encourage them, offering a whole palette of sometimes very spectacular blows. In the end, Maxence won for this first duel on Pickelball field.

Among the ladies, the final opposed Aurélia Libourel (Caussade, 82) and Cendrine Sanchez (Lannemezan, 65), both of which made a faultless course in the group phase. At the time of the verdict, it was the Tarn-et Garonnaise who won.

The afternoon was reserved for doubles. The matches followed one another by alternating the double gentlemen and the double ladies. The advantage of this new practice is that it makes it possible to mix players more in terms of ages in particular. Thus, in the Vila family (Cahors), father and son could team up, a very positive experience and a winning bet since they reached the final for their first participation in a tournament of this type! Only Christian Ibos (Labarthe Riveire, 31) and Franck Ruffin (Lannemezan, 65), more experienced, could block their road to victory.

Among the ladies, Cendrine Sanchez, associated with Véronique Géraud (Labarthe Rivière) took a good revenge on her lost final in the morning. The pickelball friend duo won against the Caussadaises Aurélia Libourel and Dominque Bernardin.

It was a great day, a good opportunity to discover this new snowshoe sport more precisely.
