Tennis: after his elimination in Madrid, Iga Swiatek needs “a few days of rest”

-

IGA Swiatek admitted that there was “nothing to remember” from her lost match 6-1, 6-1 against Coco Gauff Thursday in Madrid and that she needed “a few days of rest” before the Rome tournament, which begins next week.

Question: What was the most difficult today?

Answer: “Frankly, there is nothing to remember because everything was almost the same from start to finish. I did not really manage to raise my level. Coco played well, but I think it is my fault if I did not really move well. Today I had not even plan B because nothing worked.”

Q: Knowing that you have not played at your best level, but that you still managed to reach the semi-finals, is there a positive aspect to draw from it?

A: “Tennis was in a sawfall for most of the tournament. I did not play well, even the matches I won. Today, that’s for sure, everything collapsed on the tennis plan. I feel that I was not in the right place with my feet before the blows. I would have liked to move better.”

Q: You say you haven’t moved well, how does it manifest? Has something changed in terms of trust?

A: “We feel heavy. We force everything instead of trusting intuition. I know how I can move and generally I don’t need to think about it a lot. But in recent weeks, it has not been so easy. I am not a different player from what I was in recent years with regard to attitude or emotions.

Q: Do you want to take a break of a few days or go directly to Rome and start working?

A: It is sure that I want to have a few days of rest, especially because I did not have one after Stuttgart (WTA 500). I will surely relax, but frankly, it is the coaches who will make the program, so we will see.
