André Caumont, 81 ansis a local figure in Saint-Paul-du-Vernay near Bayeux (Calvados) where he was during 20 years the president of the football club. Football is his whole life, he already devoted 63 years, almost half of which in his commune.

“In the 1990s, I arrived in Saint-Paul-du-Vernay. And I stayed at the club for thirty years including 20 as president ”.

Among his best memories, André remembers the presentation of medals by Aimé Jacquet and the last by Didier Deschamps. “It is also the maintenance in 1re Division of our Fresne-Camilly club against Amfréville ”.

He also evokes “another more unhappy memory. In 2000, we hired a young person in service-service for the Saint-Paul club which then played in 2e division. He was dismissed a day too late, through my fault. The club was penalized and we went down in 4e division. All the players stayed anyway, it made me carefully see their solidarity. ”

Today, the club is not at its top level. The former player confides that he would not let the Saint-Palais club die, especially since the municipality has shed lighting on it which allows nightly matches.

Many activities

André is no longer the leader of the football club, but there is no shortage of activities: today, he is vice-president of the Friendship Club Saint-Palaises which has organized dancing teas for more than 20 years and the elder meetings.

“I am also vice-president of the Association of Veterans of Saint-Paul. I am in charge of entertainment and dancing teas (including one for the benefit of the association “The smile of Justine”) and the ceremonies of May 8 and November 11 with Serge Lepelletier, president “.

He has also been a city councilor since 2020 after having made a first mandate with Sylvine Bellemain, between 2008 and 2014.
