A beautiful Canadian film on the return to nature, full of empathy and realism, the story of a young city dweller who becomes a shepherd in Provence. To discover.
The synopsis
Tired of modern life, Mathyas swaps his life as an advertising in Montreal for that of Berger in Provence. But pastoral life is not without pitfalls and without difficulties, discovering the harshness of a profession and his conditions when he thought he was finding tranquility and natural life. His meeting with Elise, an official who joins him in his dream will act as a detonator. Together, they are entrusted with a herd of several hundred sheep and engage in a long transhumance.

Be careful! Awarded at the last Toronto Festival as the best Canadian film, this singular work is just as much a celebration of pastoral poetry as a film on the back of the scene of these beautiful utopias, the horrors and the violence of the agricultural world, the dreams disappointed as much as it magnifies a magnificent job. Bathed in incredible light and a real taste for the frame and the image. Sophie Deraspe’s film never lets herself be locked up in her theme, which is quite brutally depicts behind the scenes, sometimes violent, of the agricultural world. And it is in this mixture that this delicate film evolves, like a desire elsewhere. A nice surprise.
