The famous American lottery “Powerball” is regularly talked about, especially for its juicy jackpots, sometimes exceeding one billion dollars (taxable). But this time, it is for another reason that PowerBall makes the headlines: the jackpot winner had to return to prison, shortly after touching his check.
According to the American channel CBS, James Farthing, an American from Georgetown (Kentucky) was imprisoned on April 30 in a county prison in Pinellas, Florida.
A Jackpot Record
Two days earlier, he nevertheless proudly posed behind the imposing amount with his mother, with whom he had played the winning combination … bringing them the tidy sum of $ 167.3 million (just under 150 million euros) – the largest sum ever paid to the Powerball in Kentucky.
Mother and son won this jackpot on Saturday April 26. They had the choice between touching the entire sum in 30 payments spread over as many years, or 77.3 million immediately. James Farthing himself released the photo taken on Monday 28 on his social networks-without indicating his choice.
-But he will not have taken advantage of his fortune long: Tuesday evening, he was arrested in a hotel in Florida, in full altercation with another person. He first struck the latter in the face, then kicked the face of a police officer who interposed.
$ 295 on his “canteen” account in prison
Result: James Farthing is continued for “violence against a person depositary of the public authority”, “hindrance”, but also “violation of the obligations provided for by its parole” until August. Because yes, he had been released from prison to conditional in Kentucky!
If we do not know why he had been condemned this time, his criminal record already displays convictions for “falsification of evidence”, “participation in organized crime”, “offenses in the law on drugs” or “concealment of stolen property”.
In the meantime, he should be able to go out quickly … provided he pays a deposit of $ 10,000. Has he ever touched his new fortune? For the time being, according to CBS, his “canteen” account of the prison shows only $ 295. He will then have to face justice again for these new facts … which may still lead him to prison.
