Ferrari had promised it: a special livery to celebrate Miami Formula 1 Grand Prix and mark a year of partnership with HP. The fans had dreamed. Teasers in blue and white, combinations of pilots without an ounce of red … everything suggested a strong break with the traditional red dress of the Scuderia. Some hoped for a completely blue single -seater like retro tribute, others an elegant white livery. But in the end? Ferrari did not dare to take the plunge. And on social networks, disappointment is palpable.
Lots of expectations, little surprise
Ferrari’s communication had, however, skillfully fueled curiosity. The outfits of Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton, entirely blue and white, have ignited the collective imagination. On X (ex-Twitter), fans published concepts of SF-25 “Full Blue” inspired by the colors of HP. A new Ferrari Miami Edition would she finally dare to shake up the myth of Red Ferrari? You have to believe that no.
Because the final version unveiled this Wednesday is, let’s say it frankly, shy. The front fin, the rear fin, the engine cover: these are the only areas where we find this famous electric blue. The rest of the car? Always red. Even the white rims, supposed to give a “modern and refined” aspect, struggle to make an illusion. Already in 2022, in Monza, Ferrari had teased a yellow livery and the fans were entitled to … red with a few touches of yellow. Rebelote to Miami.
A shiny communication … for a free -free livery?
The Scuderia however defends its choice: “For the first time in the history of Scuderia, the livery has asymmetrical graphic elements,” said the official press release. It is a “concrete celebration” of the alliance between Ferrari and HP, “two visions united by technology and creativity”. On paper, the intention is laudable. But in paddocks as on forums, many believe that Ferrari has mainly celebrated aesthetic prudence.
Because if the design of the car remains generally unchanged, Ferrari, however, has a lot on the coastline. In addition to special combinations, an initiative called messages of forza allowed fans to leave messages to the team. A large banner was unveiled in the presence of Fred Vasseur, Leclerc and Hamilton. Again, the intention is beautiful. But the heart of the tifosi beats for one thing: the car. And this SF-25 Miami edition simply did not create the expected “wow” effect.
Avalanche of criticism on social networks
On X (formerly Twitter), fans’ reactions were not long in coming … and they are final. Between mockery, frustration and anger, the special Miami 2025 livery was literally massacred online. “Stronger to make used livery than to win GPs,” quips a user. “It looks like a display bug”, “-50/20, cataclysmic”, “worse delivered from the last 20 years”, or “you have ruined Ferrari”: harsh comments are counted by hundreds, in all languages. In short, between disappointed hopes and aesthetics deemed sloppy, the Scuderia seems to have missed its coup ‘.
Ferrari and the fear of change
Red Ferrari is an institution. But at a time when Formula 1 seeks to seduce a new audience, especially in the United States, some teams do not hesitate to dare radical livery to make an impression. Red Bull has already done so, Mercedes too. Ferrari, she remains faithful to her image … To the point of missing a golden opportunity to be talked about other than with the results. Finally, this special Miami 2025 livery will be remembered not for its audacity, but for the frustration it has generated.
