Drama in the Pyrenees: a ski hiker was found dead on the Franco-Spanish border

The hiker left alone on April 30 and was to find friends on May 2 in a refuge by Gavarnie-Gédre (Hautes-Pyrénées).

“An investigation is underway to determine the exact circumstances of the death,” the PGHM said in its press release.

Roland’s breach is a natural hole 40 m wide in the cliffs around the Gavarnie circus. A legend says that she would have been opened by Roland, nephew of Charlemagne, who was trying to break the Durandal sword against the rock after a battle in order to prevent his enemies from taking it.
