We will soon see you in “Le Domaine”, this very black film where you share the poster with Félix Lefebvre (“Summer 85”). What attracted you to this project?
I was seduced by the character of Celia, by his melancholy and his mystery, his appearances being as rare as they are precious. You never know with certainty whether the scenes where it appears are real or not, because we always see it through the retrospective gaze of Damien, who recalls their history. We are at the edge of the fantastic and I liked this aspect.
You have already played in an openly fantastic film, the short film “Lino”, by Aurélien Vernhes-Lermusiaux, where you were a vampire and give the reply to Pierre Lottin …
I wanted to try the fantastic who is one of my favorite genres, if not the one I love the most. When I met Pierre, he already had more openly recognized film filming projects related to author’s cinema. But, for me, “Les Tuche”, it is, certainly, general public and popular, but it is also author cinema, intelligently written. Pierre is extraordinary, with the accent he adopts, and that did not surprise me that he has bounced so well since. Whether it is “the Tuche” for him or “a moment of error” for me, there are advantages when you start with films that work because, casually, this job opens up to us. But, at the same time, it takes us into a box and we must then prove himself doubly to show that we can try out other registers.
This film brought me only positive things, despite some misogynist reactions from a male audience that too sexualized me when I was only 18 years old
2025 marks the tenth anniversary of the release of “a moment of error” which marked your beginnings …
I have a very soft memory because he defined the job I practice today, when I had not considered at all! I was preparing my baccalaureate and I passed the hearing by chance, it was literally a hundred meters from my high school! I almost learned from the acting game by observing the incredible actors around me: Vincent Cassel, François Cluzet, Alice Isaaz. This film brought me only positive things, despite some misogynist reactions from a male audience that too sexualized when I was only 18 years old. But I knew how to manage this because I was warned that it could happen. And, at the time, we were not as much on social networks.
Are your parents, actress Valérie Stroh and the trumpeter Éric Le Lann, have an influence on your desire to be an artist?
I have always made music but I never thought of doing my job even if, whether you like it or not, you are influenced when you have a musician parent. My mother was an actress but never encouraged us, my sister and I, to do theater because, for her, it was a job too uncertain. This cast, I passed it behind, out of curiosity, challenge and to make a little pocket money. If I had not obtained the role, I would not have sought to go further because the process was long and tedious. It lasted two months! I am rather introverted and I do not know if I would have had the courage to insist and to go to the doors as some do.
Is your “domain” to you, is Brittany?
Already, I am very happy with this meeting because I have been the telegram for a long time. It was the favorite newspaper of my grandfather who had himself been the subject of an article-and he was very proud of it-because he still played the trumpet at 92 years old. I am 50 % Breton, my father being 100 % Breton: he was born in Côtes-d’Armor but has lived, for thirty years, in Finistère. My grandparents lived in Morbihan, so I went around Brittany! I have a little Provençal and Italian on my mother’s side but my roots are Brittany. It is the only place where I would like to live outside the Paris region.
I have very strong childhood memories with my sister and my father, in Kerdruc, on the port. When you are a child, it is hyperenriching to grow there because, when there is just the sea and not much else, it makes the imagination work
Do you have a favorite place?
I have several! The house of my grandparents, in Locminé, where my grandfather made me discover jazz and where I learned to make horse thanks to my grandmother who had recovered two old mares. I have other very strong childhood memories with my sister and my father, in Kerdruc (29), on the port. When you are a child, it is hyperenriching to grow there because, when there is just the sea and not much else, it makes the imagination work. These cocoons built me.
You are also a singer, and one of your songs has a surprising title: “PMU smell” …
This title pays tribute to these places which allow different social environments to rub shoulders. I like to ask myself and observe people and their interactions in these authentic frames. There are several where I like to go, including one, towards Pont-Aven (29), where an old old man came to buy his cigarettes on horseback, that he “parked” in front of the PMU! There are only in these kinds of places where we see such things! It was like a film scene!
