The fire of Fish Creek moves away from Fort St. John

The forest fire which caused the evacuation of a district on Thursday evening to the north of the city of Fort St. John, in British Columbia, is still not controlled, but the residents were able to return home on Friday morning.

BC Wildfire, the province’s fire service, indicates on Facebook that the fire of Fish Creek moves northeast, in the opposite direction of the community, and that the cooler temperatures during the night helped the work of the firefighters, despite the steep land.

Trevor Bolin, a city councilor from Fort St. John, notes that the situation is a reminder of the risks of hot and dry time.

Flights were delayed in the evening on Thursday at North Peace regional airport, but the regular service resumed a few hours later.

Meanwhile, a group of fires along Route 52 N, southwest of Fort St. John, had damaged an optical fiber cable and cut the Internet connection in the village of Tumbler Ridge.

The DriveBC website reports for its part that Route 52 is open on a work -study track, with an escort vehicle, and that managers continue to monitor the conditions.

A new fire discovered between Chetwynd and Dawson Creek

On Friday, BC Wildfire identified a new fire, about 40 km northeast of Chetwynd, towards Dawson Creek.

Four helicopters and a tank plane flew over the area at the end of the afternoon.

The burned area, estimated at 15 hectares, is minimal, but the fire was not under control Friday afternoon and a large plume of smoke was visible around.
