The fires in the Bouconne Forest was up to now from the past. Fires at the beginning of the 20th century had destroyed several hundred hectares of forest between the municipalities of Montaigut, Mondonville and Daux. The causes of these claims were mainly attributable to coalvers, which is now disappeared, and eco -tuning, now prohibited. To combat these claims, preventive measures were taken by the National Forest Office (ONF): development of pares-fires, installation of fire terminals and digging of Bordette as a water reserve for firefighters. Today, these same ONF services must adapt to the consequences of global warming, which have caused major forest braziers in 2022 in the south of France.
“With the presence of many very flammable pines, it is now the southern part of the forest massif which is our main concern,” said Olivier Chaze, ONF manager of the Gascogne territorial unit. “As part of the defense of forests against fires (DFCI), we installed a 30 m³ of water in Léguevin and Pujaudran and have set up direct firefighters with pumping foot at Lake Bordette, in order to no longer use drinking water for the fight against fires”. The amount of this work amounts to € 80,000, financed by the ONF and the EAFDER (EU and Region). “Maneuvers on these new facilities should take place soon with the SDIS and DDT services,” said Olivier Chaze. With a tank project in the communal wood of Isle-Jourdain, it is a complete DFCI network of the Bouconne massif which should eventually be operational.
