For a week, Alain Combier presents his exhibition entitled Alma Mater to the Duresy gallery. She is accompanied by this text:
Born in 1957 in Perpignan, Alain Combier became very young in photography. Equipped with his Pentax Spotmatic, he traveled the plains and the mountains of Roussillon, drawing his inspiration from the light of the Mediterranean landscapes, from the harsh beauty of the Pyrenees, and sometimes in the geometry of architectural discoveries. Adept of black and white, he reworked the shadows and clarities of his shots in his laboratory and was fascinated by the “climb” of the tests in the revealer tray, before their “fixation” which transformed the ephemeral into timeless.
Engineering studies and a long professional career in the industry then led him, for forty years, from Paris to Montreal, then to Madrid and Tokyo. But he has never lost his first taste for photography. Over the years, he has continued to enrich his portfolios, both in black and white, more refined and demanding, in color, softer and shimmering, with a particular attraction for landscapes.
Now established in Paris and freer of his time, he can give new impetus to his passion for youth. This exhibition at the Galerie DURV from April 8 to 14, 2025 allows him to present works from his first period, that of his beginnings in his native lunch. This is what lights up the title of the exhibition, Alma Mater“nourishing land”, as a homecoming.
